2009-03-12 Visit to Toastmasters Club Avancé Select
The most beautiful woman in the world and I visited Toastmasters Club Avancé Select in Ste-Thérèse, north of Montreal. The room was packed when we arrived, just in time to hear my name announced to sit at the head table (things just have a way of working out perfectly). I was there to present a 45 minute workshop “A Method to this Madness” on speaking off-the-cuff.
First, we listened to a speech about energy savings. The next speech began, “In the spring, I love to go out on my bicycle…” I thrust my hands up triumphantly. This meeting was off to a great start! The speakers received feedback and then it was my turn.
My workshops are always a bit unpredictable and people also tell me thay are fun, informative and faith-building. They receive the acknowledgement that they can do it too. Speaking in public isn`t really that mystical when we simplify it; when we simplify it, it can be… magical! During the training, I added perhaps 60 seconds about the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride (I was there to provide training, not promote the ride.
After we finished and I sat down, one of the members, Karen Torgerson stood and enthusiastically encouraged people to give to the ride by donating or buying a chocolate bar. Together, they raised $65 in addition to some very kind on-line pledges I notice coming through today. Merci tous les membres de le Toastmasters Club avancé select!
