Time to Gear Down!
Riding to work in the morning, I usually get caught in the left lane of traffic at the red light in front of the Chateau Laurier Hotel on Wellington Street, Ottawa. After the light turns green, to keep up to traffic, I have a 175m sprint to the next light.
According to my friends and some uninhibitedly expressive strangers, I have larger than average legs. Some of it is muscle that enjoys much...

Who Woulda Thunk It?
I work in one of the buildings overlooking Parliament Hill. Today, there was some kind of celebration or march or somethin’, several thousand people on the front lawn of Parliament Hill. I found out from my colleagues that it was about marijuana (I later read that this was an annual event, like the Tulip Festival, I guess). I peeked out occasionally as the crowd built up. They seemed like a...
Sears St. Laurent - 2009-04-19
The amazing Ken Cross of Kingston visited the Ottawa Sears stores this weekend and kindly invited me along. I was available only Sunday, so we planned to ride together for 5 hours, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Unfortunately, he was not feeling well, so I rode alone while he and my son Brandon helped people to locate the donation bin.

Gatineau Parc Still Frozen
Tonight, I joined some friends from the Ottawa Bicycle Club for an evening ride in our favourite training area, Gatineau Parc, just across the Ottawa river in la belle Québec. It is a beautiful park, perhaps a 15 minute bike ride from downtown Ottawa.
The rolling hills are loved by cyclists in the summer and cross-country skiers in the winter when the roads are allowed to snow over. The internal,...

Arctic Sludge at -4º C !
After work today, I rode to the south west end of Ottawa for an interview with reporter Jennifer “Apples” McIntosh of the Nepean This Week newspaper. All day, it snowed. On my way to work, it snowed. On my way to and from a lunchtime meeting, it snowed. A large group of protesters graced Parliament Hill all afternoon and into the evening. Not sure what they trying to get by protesting,...
"Jaded Way" Concert Raises $909.15!
Thanks to Denis, the other members of Jaded Way, and the Orleans Legion, we raised $909.15, plus a $20 receipted donation for a total of $929.15.
The music was fantastic. I don’t have a whole lot of classic rock in my music collection, but I REALLY enjoyed Jaded Way. If you ever get an opportunity to see them in concert, take it. You will find your toes tapping and head nodding to familiar...
